Global Issues Recitation

30 October 2009

Could a Middle-Eastern Union, following the model of the European Union, work? Is there a common Middle-Eastern identity upon which such a union could be formed? Is it feasible to see a weakening of the religious tensions of the area (both inter- and intra-religion)? Could the Middle-East overcome the lasting interest-driven influence of other, more powerful countries in the world (namely, the United States, Russia, China, and the nations of the EU), in terms of crude oil, political alliances, and religious ties to cradle of the big three monotheistic religions?

And if so, why would such a thing be desirable, for them and for the world at large?
