“I believe”
21 September 2011
What follows are words found scrawled onto a wall in Cologne, Germany, where Jews were hiding during WWII. In Marquand Chapel yesterday, we sang an utterly haunting setting of this by the great Mark Miller:
I believe in the sun, even when it’s not shining.
I believe in love, even when I don’t feel it.
I believe in God, even when [God] is silent.
